Manshiyat Naser: The Garbage City

Nothing is wasted. In the narrow, dust-filled streets of Manshiyat Naser, the Zabbaleen turn Cairo’s refuse into a way of life. Deeply rooted in their Coptic Christian faith, the community lives in the shadow of the Moqattam Hills, where they’ve carved massive cathedrals directly into the rock. These images document the grit of the sorting factories and the quiet dignity of people who have built a sanctuary out of what the world throws away.

Mauritania: the Iron Ore Train

In the Mauritanian desert, waiting is unavoidable. Buses leave when they’re ready, conversations fill the time, and heat sets the pace. A 3-kilometer long cargo train cuts through the Sahara, carrying dust, iron, and people heading home. What begins as an adventure slowly reveals a different rhythm of travel.

Masandaran: a rural Iranian wedding

In the north of Iran close to the Caspian Sea, lies Masandaran. A region where the language spoken is not Persian, and the traditions are ancient and peculiar. Dario arrived here by bicycle not knowing these things, and was invited to a 3-day long wedding. The program: traditional dances until late in the night, physical games, and colorful cerimonies.
